We are a new Soto Zen sitting group forming in Greenville. Our intention is to gather twice a month for zazen, in borrowed space at first, and to grow slowly toward a permanent home for practice in the Upstate.

Here is the rhythm we are planning, and what a morning with us will look like. The moment a space and a first date are set, this page will fill in with concrete dates and directions.

Our intended rhythm

Once we begin, we will gather on the first and third Sunday morning of each month. Sitting will start at 8:00 a.m., and anyone new will be invited to come at 7:30 a.m. for a short orientation and meditation instruction.

We will post the concrete dates here, and write to the email list, as soon as we have a space and a first morning set.

What a morning will look like

7:30
Orientation and meditation instruction for newcomers and guests
8:00
Zazen, seated meditation
8:25
Kinhin, walking meditation
8:35
Zazen, seated meditation
9:00
Closing reading and informal tea

The times above show a typical Sunday; the periods of zazen run about twenty-five to forty-five minutes depending on the morning. We begin and end on time, and the whole gathering runs about an hour and a half, ending around 9:15 a.m..

Location

Our meeting place is not yet confirmed. We are looking for a simple, welcoming space in Greenville for two mornings a month. Once it is set, the full address, parking, and entry notes will appear here.
